Murder charges filed in Los Banos fentanyl deaths
Raymond Jose Caudillo

MERCED — The Merced County District Attorney’s Office has filed three counts of murder against a San Jose man accused of supplying the fentanyl that led to three fatal overdoses in Los Banos earlier this year.

Prosecutors allege Raymond Jose Caudillo provided the fentanyl that killed three people on March 16, 2026. The Los Banos Police Department and the Merced Area Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team (MAGNET) investigated the deaths and traced the source of the drugs, according to the DA’s office.

Caudillo is scheduled to be arraigned at 2:30 p.m. May 21 in Department 3 of Merced County Superior Court.

In announcing the charges, District Attorney Nicole Silveira’s office said the case reflects the county’s commitment to aggressively pursuing those who knowingly distribute fentanyl that results in death. Prosecutors said they are prioritizing investigations into fentanyl trafficking as overdose deaths continue to rise.

“The public is urged to remain vigilant and understand the serious risks associated with illicit fentanyl,” the DA’s office said, adding that it remains committed to both accountability and public education.

No additional details about the victims were released.
