With the end of the regular season approaching, the Orestimba High water polo team fell 13-8 on the road to Modesto High last Thursday.

The Warriors fell to 2-5 overall while the Panthers remain undefeated at 4-0.

Senior Myles Costa led Orestimba with three goals, increasing his total to 19 this season. Joining him was senior Noah Richards, who finished with two goals and an assist.

With his team not getting the result they wanted, head coach Scott Barnes said there needs to be improvement on both sides of the ball.

Modesto jumped out to a quick 4-0 start and didn’t look back. With the help of two goals from senior Bryant Stallknecht, the Panthers held a 9-3 lead at halftime.

The lead expanded to as much as eight in the third quarter as the Warriors’ defense could not stop Modesto’s offense. Orestimba scored two goals at the end of the match, but it was not enough to overcome their deficit.

As the program’s inaugural season comes to a near end, Barnes said he has seen the team through each game, especially on defense. He added that he’s also learned some new aspects about the sport through each practice and match.

The Warriors will travel to Tracy for a match against Kimball High (1-5) on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m.
